High Five!

This weeks’ High Five goes out to Brittany Hursh, the Speech Language Pathologist at Avilla Elementary School. Brit is entering her fourth year and has accomplished much in a short amount of time! She has obtained her Certificate of Clinical Competence, Speech-Language Pathologist.. SLP’s must have earned Master’s degrees from a University program which has been accredited by ASHA (the American Speech and Hearing Association). Along with required coursework, Master’s degree students complete 400 hours in a clinical setting, working as speech therapists in training. Once a Master’s degree (including the clinical practicum) is completed, the new speech therapist must complete a Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship Year of at least 36 weeks of full-time clinical practice under the supervision of a certified SLP. She also had to successfully complete a national examination in speech-language pathology. Finally, after meeting all these requirements, she can now proudly use the title CCC-SLP: Certificate of Clinical Competence, Speech-Language Pathologist. Not only obtaining this, she also applied and has been accepted into a cadre of folks from across the country who will be soon be traveling to Ohio for an intense week of training with a service dog! Yes, Wanda will now have a partner in crime. Brittany is anxiously awaiting the word as to when this will occur. On top of this she also serves as member of the District Autism Team and meets the needs of students of many students in the area of Speech and Language. Her room is always filled with laughter and fun as students work with her to improve their skills. Not only is Avilla so very lucky to have Brit on the staff, but all of East Noble benefits from her presence. Thank you for all do for OUR kids!
